ATHLETICS POLICY

Divine Mercy Academy has a school sanctioned athletic program.'' This means that the program is financed by the parish and is under the authority of the principal and pastor. The program is supported by the Athletic Association. Information about this program is available through the Athletic Association and the school office. The basketball program is open to girls and boys in grades 3 through 8. Notices of meetings are sent home with children. It is essential that our sports program reflect our school's values. While responsibility for the students' athletic performance falls upon the coaches during games and practices, it is the students' responsibility to, succeed academically. The parents and teachers have the option to withhold eligibility in cases of poor academic performances a student may retain eligibility by showing academic improvement as determined by a consultation between parent and teacher. It is a policy of the school that a student may attend practice or play in a game only if he or, she has attended school on that day. With the excitement that accompanies involvement in a sports program, it is important that we do not lose sight of the school's academic mission and the fact that participation in sports is a privilege.

Diocesan Required Regulations for All Students:

1. Before the first practice all students must have parent authorization to participate in the sport.

2. A student may not participate in practice or play unless his/her family provide insurance coverage.

3. No student may participate in any sport activity unless a parent/guardian signs a waiver releasing the school, church and diocese from any liability.
