Departments

Realizing the importance of the spiritual growth and moral development of students of all ages, the religious education program sets goals and objectives that are constant and consistent. A genuine, personal relationship with God, and the response of worship and service is the ultimate goal of the religious program. All students participate in religion classes. The doctrine of the Catholic Church is taught with continuing depth and breadth as the students grow older. The school expects that parents take an active role in the religious education of their children.


Physical Education and Health

Students attend gym classes one time per week and health is taught throughout the curriculum.

Library

Students visit the school library one time per week.

Computer

Students receive computer instruction one day per week. The computer lab is open to teachers and classes during times when the lab is not in use.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts is taught throughout the school curriculum.

Science and Social Studies

Science and Social Studies are taught at all grade levels.

Language Arts

Reading, Literature, English, Spelling, Handwriting and Phonics are taught throughout the school curriculum. the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading,and both oral and written composition are taught. Creative writing is also integrated into the curriculum.

Foreign Language

Spanish is taught from Pre- K through 8th Grade.

Math

Math Cubed Program for Grades K through 4 and General Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra are offered in the Upper Elementary Grades.

Curriculum Support Programs

  • AIDS Education
Education regarding the prevention of this deadly virus is included in the health education program in grades 1 through 8. The information, which is state mandated, is presented in a manner consistent with the views of the Catholic Church.
  • S.A.P.
Student Assistance Program. The school administrator and five other teachers have been certified by the state as at core team to identify students with problems and to work with the family for intervention through referral. Referral to the school guidance counselor can be a result of SAP intervention. Parental permission is not required for student support services offered in schools.
 
  • Title I
The state mandated program is provided through the public school district in which you reside. The program offers remedial reading and remedial math to students who qualify through testing. Instructors hired by the public school district work with students at an off-site location ( the Plaza Building across the street).
 
  • Speech
This state mandated program is provided through the Intermediate Unit. A speech teacher is present one half day per week and works with students who qualify for admittance to speech class.
